Poetic Interludes

Friends, Romans is proud to present another installment of its exclusive series: Poetic Interludes:

ODE TO SMOG

Oh mighty smog,
I smite thee smog,
because you shatter
my sinuses
with your particulate matter.

Like a pick on ice.

HATCHA! HATCHA! HATCHA! HATCHA! HATCHA! HATCHA! HATCHA! HATCHA! HATCHA! HATCHA! HATCHA! HATCHA! HATCHA! HATCHA! HATCHA! HATCHA! HATCHA! HATCHA!

Few and Far Between

Just a quick note Dear Reader. To be blunt, I'm struggling somewhat. My sinuses aren't quite right yet and we're in the middle of major smog. I'm still running pretty tired and barely keeping up at work right now.

Oh. And did I mention the heat wave? And no air conditioning installed upstairs yet? The Marine installed it downstairs though and he was bone tired on Sunday too. What a dude.

At any rate, I'm going to do my best to keep updating here but if you don't see me for a while don't panic. And if you wonder why I haven't been around your blog, don't panic. I just need to catch my breath - literally and figuratively.

So thank you for your patience Dear Readers. All five of you. : )

So I'm Paranoid. Shoot Me.

So it turned out that I only got a couple of points of feedback on my production process. One just required a clarification on my part and the other was an augmentation to the process that actually made a lot of sense.

I'm obviously still battle scarred from my last few work environments. It's kind of sad really.

In other Zesty news I was at pilates today. It was harsh y'all. Harsh. But I am forging on and have signed up for another ten classes. My pilates teacher is so encouraging. I really like her. I walk in feeling so down some days, dreading what's ahead, and I always walk out feeling much better and encouraged.

At times bow legged and trembling with fatigue, but better and encouraged.

And on that note, a hot bath is in order I think.

Hello

Just a quick blog to say hello. I'm sorry these posts have been rather uninspired of late, but I don't really have much to say, or at least don't feel as if I do. I got back into the swing of things at work today after a somewhat nice weekend. Saw my friend "Fiona" for brunch on Saturday, gardened Sunday and nursed cramps and codeine yesterday.

Today I was in full planning mode for our big redev project. For some reason I expect to get completely shot down. So I guess that I'm either paranoid or smart.

We'll see.

Operation Pudge Nudge: Progress

On Sunday, I weighed myself at my parents' home because I don't have a scale myself. Not a sausage. The scale had not budged one bit. I put it down to the icecream therapy I had utilized during my sinus infection. Seriously, 15 minutes of cold icecream settled at the back of my throat did more to dull the pain than ibuprofen.

But I digress.

I was surprised to see no loss of weight on the scale, primarily because my clothes are looser and I do look a little thinner. I suppose the scale will catch up eventually, and to be honest, I really have to get into the cardio asap. I've got my Pudge Nudge mix already to go.

Today, however, I had my pilates class. I was quite apprehensive because I had missed two classes in a row. Two weeks ago, my instructor was sick and had to cancel, and last week I was certainly in no condition to attend. I really expected to be back to square one, anticipating a session like my first when my muscles were stiff and uncooperative.

What a pleasant surprise when I discovered not only did I not lose ground, but I was actually able to push myself more this session! I also noticed that after days of hacking and coughing, my stomach muscles weren't sore at all. So maybe that served as an alternate core workout.

I finish my last antibiotic tomorrow and today, felt normal for the first time in about two weeks. Plus to put it all in context, you can't be well all the time. My last prescription was in December 2004. Yes, nearly a year and half of not taking an antibiotic. That's a record y'all. I was anticipating I'd feel draggy for weeks. Instead, I am decidedly back in the saddle.

Can a spinning class be far behind?

Mama's Day

Well my sinus infection is still hanging in there. I got antibiotics at the walk in clinic on Friday and had to go home by 3:15 pm I was so exhausted. I hope they start to kick in soon as I'm basically still feeling like freeze dried crap.

On the upside, as the Marine and I were heading up to my folks, I saw a mama duck and her six young charges walking along the highway today enroute to the humber river. I hope they made it alright, and it was certainly a nice thing to see today of all days.

Conceding Defeat

Sinus Infections: 3,472

Zesty: 0

It was all going so well, until I woke up in the middle of the night in the midst of another Tsunami of Snot.

This afternoon my right ear felt [and still does feel] like it was going to explode.

I went into my boss this afternoon and all I said was "Hey Boss." and he said "You're just not doing well are you? Do you need to work from home?" What a TOTAL Dude. I so heart my boss.

Hence, with his blessing I am off to the walk in clinic first thing tomorrow morning, where I will more than likely receive my 2,048th prescription for antibiotics.

I'll be blogging regularly once I'm 100% again.

Later skaters.

Damn Allergies

Well, a quick note to let you all know that I'm still alive.

Last week, I was in the midst of project planning, which became even more labourious as the trees starting blooming in Toronto. It was as if every leaf and bloom opened up at once, buffeting my care worn sinuses with an onslaught of pollen it couldn't stand up against.

Compounded with this is the fact that I've recently gone through another of my "up periods". What I mean by this is that over the last few years, I've noticed that the rebounding of my energy is simply a preamble to the inevitable sickness that will follow. It's as if my immune system revs up, sees something it needs to deal with, and then does so - badly.

So given that my energy has been at all time high the past couple of months, this latest episode may have been inevitable. By Wednesday I was thoroughly congested and by Thursday I had next to no voice having had a day of meetings that were pretty much all mine, i.e. I couldn't just sit through them looking pretty. Heh! Friday I muddled on through, treating everyone at the office to my best Lauren Bacall impersonation.

The interesting thing was that I knew I was unwell but didn't "feel" sick. This time was different in that I was prepared for a miserable weekend. Instead, by Saturday my body was already going to town on whatever it was I had going on. I'll spare you the details, but the results of my coughing and nose blowing were indicative of the kind of infections that in the past have left me in bed for a week. Instead I was really just tired more than anything else. It was like I skipped the infection and got right down to recovery. Maybe my body was just housecleaning. Who the hell knows?

At any rate, I still felt wiped by yesterday and decided to take today off. It's a nice day out and having been cooped up all weekend, I was going to do some gardening out front. There's a patch at the side of our front garden overgrown with grass. My neighbour's niece, brought me round some beautiful plants from her garden to plant in mine. There's Irises, Forget Me Nots, Hostas - an absolute bonanza. But I reconsidered it, as I didn't think yanking grass and loosening and inhaling a bunch of dirt would be very helpful to me right now. Instead, I'm going to plant some shade flower seeds out front. Easy peasy. Then I'll sit in the back yard and get some sun on my bones. That's really all I'm up for.

For some reason, I want to have a good cry too. I'm not sure why, but I suppose I'm just a bit worn out after a busy week that ended with a weekend full of coughing and spluttering. And perhaps, I'm just trying not to get ahead of myself or be too hopeful. Energywise I'm usually good for a week, and then run ragged for two months. This time it was the exact opposite. I can't help but think that all my vitamins, pilates, osteopathy and cranial sacral therapy are all starting to kick in.

Which leads me to think that maybe I've started to turn back the tide of the last 13 years. And wouldn't that be a treat?
