Heh!

A very funny article on Generation Y. Funny, I encounter at my office the exact type of person this article describes, and the exact opposite. To my mind, it's always something. I'll take being in my generation to being in that of my grandmothers' any day. As for Generation Y, life will smooth their sharp edges, as it does for everyone.

Summer Storm

A huge thunderstorm is moving through. It woke me up, so I decided to post here as I couldn't get back to sleep.

I'm glad it's Friday. This weekend couldn't come soon enough. Between things I have planned and work I need to catch up on, however, I don't know how much down time I'll have. If I can just get some key things done by Wednesday, I'll be at a level of sanity in terms of workload that I haven't experienced for weeks. And we finally got a major project going yesterday which is very exciting. It's nice to not be talking about it anymore and actually be doing it.

Anyway, I'd write more, but honestly I'm too tired to think of much.

My Mushroom Obsession Continues

I just bought this last week as my new official office mug and it arrived today!



I'm completely losing it aren't I.

Day Trippin'

There is nothing quite so wonderful as a summer day trip in Ontario's countryside:

Our first stop was the lovely little town of Elora.






It ain't exactly Martha's Vineyard, but it comes pretty damn close. It was a perfect summer's day; no humidity, low 20's and unrelenting sunshine.

OH. MAH. GUH! A CHEMTRAIL!!!

Is it a coincidence that this was picture number 13 in my camera??

The flowers were beautiful too.



I thought this last one was rather touching, even though they are not real flowers. As a former Girl Guide, I was pleased see to we had left a wreath at the local legion.


It was Canada Day so Elora was bustling. At one point we ran into an elderly couple who were looking for a hot dog bbq. They were done up in their red and white finery. The other great thing about summer holidays is that the vintage cars come out.




We stopped in a lovely antique shop where I was obsessed with a white marble paper weight shaped like a mushroom. Don't ask me why. It also had some lovely door accessories. This is probably the only time in my life that I'll be able to say without a trace of irony "Great knockers."



We also scored at the thrift shop. The Marine got a small carved Chinese oyster.



I didn't take the best pictures of this but you get the idea. The Marine got it for 25 cents. He then found a similar one online being sold for $110.00!!!!

I got this lovely plant pot for $3.00. I'm going to use it in my office as I don't have plants at home due to the cats.



We then went and checked out the Elora Mill and the gorge.



After picking up some birthday presents for my niece, who is seven this August [going on 40], we hit the road again for the bustling metropolis of Elmira.

Quite a lovely little place actually.





Then it was off to St. Joseph's for some grub.


I was hoping to get a hot dog. I was not disappointed.













This is a rather heartening contradiction I think. Far too often in life, the buns are too big and the wieners are too small. It's nice to know this is not always the case.

St. Joseph's is a lovely town.


We then headed to the 401 via Waterloo/Kitchener. How does a street get to be called "Erb" exactly?

Coming back into the city was spectacular. There were sailboats on Lake Ontario everywhere you looked. I tried to get a snap shot of them but I don't think it turned out too well.


And that was our Canada Day road trip.

Zonked

Well had a good first day back at work after four days off, but I'm pretty tired. Got some great pictures on the road trip yesterday though, and I'll post them shortly.

With our summer hours, I have only 1.5 days left in the week and I still can't wait for the weekend! LOL! Oh the torture of a corporate existence in the summer.

It's Early

It's 4:50 a.m. I'm going through one of my anemic insomnia episodes. I usually have to ride things out for about a week and eventually my sleep patterns settle down. Little by little I am starting to feel better and my energy is picking up.

Which is just as well as I had three trips to Dominion yesterday. One to purchase curry sauce and a chicken, one to go back and get the chicken I left with the cashier and another one to go back and get rice because, of course, when I was at the store the first time, I didn't pay attention to that little internal voice that said "Hey! I think we're out of rice! Maybe you should get some!"

This time last year we were heading home from Martha's Vineyard. What a wonderful vacation that was. The Marine and I are hoping to get back there for a long weekend in the fall, fingers crossed.

We're off on a road trip today. I'll try and get some nice pics.
